Professional foot care for all ages

What is Swift?

Swift is a new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licensed for the general treatment of skin lesions in Podiatry and Dermatology. Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected tissue.

Why choose Swift?

Swift uses microwave energy to treat the virus that causes verruca & warts in a very controlled and precise way. It is the most effective treatment for verrucas & warts in the world

The treatment takes up to 10 seconds per verruca (wart) and there are no anaesthetic or dressings required, which means you can continue your everyday activities immediately.

What should I expect?

Podiatrist Chris Webb (Portsmouth) explains what patients can expect from a typical Swift treatment.

How Does Swift Verrucae Treatment Work?

Microwave energy is delivered directly to the site of the verruca using a hand-held probe. It sends microwaves to a precise and predetermined depth leaving surrounding tissue undamaged. It targets water molecules within the skin, creating heat. This activates an immune response, which destroys the infected cells.

Is Swift Safe?

Swift uses microwave energy to destroy the virus that causes verruca & warts. Microwaves are a form of non-ionising radiation which means they cannot cause damage to the DNA of living things, hence they are not carcinogenic. Swift is safe to use on both adults and children.

Does it hurt?

It is not uncommon for patients to feel a sharp sensation, similar to an injection. Unlike most treatments for verruca, pain felt during the treatment quickly subsides, and only in rare cases is there any prolonged pain.

Who can receive this treatment?

With a few exceptions, most people with skin lesions would be able to have this treatment. Swift is not recommended for use on diabetic patients, patients with implanted electronic devices or electrodes or for use close to metallic objects such as metal foot implants, jewellery etc.

How many treatments will I need?

This is dependent on how you respond to treatment. In some cases, you may require a course of treatment (treatment regime is determined by your clinician and your Podiatrist will be able to discuss this with you).
